Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at specup2code@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Specification (spec) upgrades refer to the following:

  1. Updating an ASME Material Specification [e.g., adopting the latest edition of a standard from a Standards Development Organization (SDO)].
  2. Revising a standard itself through the applicable SDO committee (e.g. ASTM).

It is.  However, hiring SpecUp2Code is the best way to ensure the specification YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT is updated by the time YOU NEED IT!  This is for 4 main reasons:

  1. The committee is composed of individuals not paid by the Standards Organization.  Work is done on a voluntary basis.  The work may be partially supported by a volunteer's employer, but not always.
  2. The ratio of volunteer to number of specifications is HUGE!
  3. Committee work includes other things in addition to doing spec updates: new material evaluations, answering public inquiries, administrative work (just to name a few).
  4. Organizations have overall strategic plans for each committee.

The specs included on the committee's update plan for a certain cycle are often based on the above factors.   This does not mean, however, that additional spec updates do not happen.  They often happen via consultants.  Hiring SpecUp2Code is the BEST way to ensure the specification update YOU NEED is done quickly!
